A naked guy walking in the streets of Kyrenia, walking totally normal, carefree and relaxed with his laptop through the city… Surprising even more that it was one of the one of the students from Africa; surprising given that it's a much higher risk for them ; they can easily be deported from the island. Was it a lost bet? Did he want to send a political message? We don't know.
According one of the press reports, there was a car accident before the incident; and the press also reported that he tried to flee, dropped his laptop and ran away. In the end they caught him. Reports also say they released him after two days; but it wasn't only about the the nude walk, they also blame him for the car accident and for some intentional damage at a residential property. Quite involved story that leaves a lot of questions open.
Obviously we do not recommend such behaviour in the middle of the city. Instead, may be he should better have joined us?

Do you know Exile Coffee and Wine in Famagusta?
It's a real gem in the students area of Famagusta hidden in a side street of busy Salamis road. They offer coffee freshly roasted from selected coffee beans from different world regions. Also, they offer self-made wine
from Karpaz areas of North Cyprus. Plus, the coffee house also serves as an art exhibition space for young talented artists that are living in North Cyprus. The name “Exile” is reminiscent to the feeling many students here in North Cyprus share and as such it is also a meeting point for international students from various countries.
The reason for presenting you this coffee house today is their recent advertisment video, carefully edited to escape facebook's censorship police. “Stretch had a risquée coffee adventure. But don’t worry, we censored it for you.” is their comment.

At three different times, Archbishop of Cyprus, Chrysostomos was allegedly caught naked (at the time when he was Bishop of Paphos). What is true or not, whether he is a covert nudist or not; we don't know. But what we know: claims were brought forward by his opponents, by people who to harm him; sometimes with fake or real photographical evidence. How sad that exposing nudity would work as a defamation.
In July 1999, group of Greek Orthodox Christians in Paphos claimed he was frequenting a luxury hotel sauna where he was seen in his birthday suit. What a crime! We couldn't find any report of whether Chrysostomos actually denied these claims at that time. Instead, when approached by reporters he gave a better answer which was recorded in a Cyprus Mail article: “That's my business, not yours.”
The second newspaper report actually quotes photographical evidence. ekathimerini reports in August 2002 that he “has been snapped in the nude by a paparazzi photographer [..] naked from the waist up by his car”. The paper cites Chrysostomos confirming that “he had been swimming at the same secluded spot for 15 years”. What a scandal! Well, what he also says is that was changing cloths.
A very similar story appears as part of a recent an interview with the archbishop in Politis. His predecessor confronted him with a photo that he had received; it allegedly shows him lying naked on a mattress on the beach. Chrysostomos maintains that the photo is doctored. He says it would not make sense to bring a foam mattress on the beach which would not even fit into the car; also the body shape does not match. We also learn the end of the story: the former archbishop teared the photo apart.
