===== The Golden Beach ===== {{:places:golden2.jpg?nolink}} Sand, Sand and Sand The Golden Beach (other names:Altınkum plaj, Chrysí Actí, Pashi Amos or Nangomi) is a wide natural sand beach -- about four kilometers long -- at tip of the Karpaz peninsular. {{:places:golden5.jpg?nolink |}} {{:places:golden4.jpg?nolink |}} It is in a nature protection zone; along with other sand beaches in Karpaz, the Golden Beach is an important nesting area for sea turtles. On the beach and elsewhere in the protection zone, camping is forbidden. Often evening times, the police is comes to check the main areas near the parking spaces for tents. Until 2017, there were two restaurants and a couple of wooden chalets for overnight stay directly in proximity of the beach. Following a court order, they were destroyed since they were illegally built. Nowadays, there are no facilities on the beach; also there is no sunshade; therefore we recommend taking your own umbrellas. ==== Where is the Nudist Beach Zone? ==== {{:places:golden1.jpg?nolink |}} {{:places:golden3.jpg?nolink |}} You need to walk a couple of hundred meters left from the main parking space. During the low season, Otherwise, walk further over the large sand dune to the hidden second part of the sand beach. {{:places:golden-map.jpg?nolink |}} For many years, there used to be even a large sign warning beachgoes of nude sunbathers; this sign is not anymore there, probably a collatoral damage when the illegal restaurants were turned down. ====How to reach the Golden Beach==== From Famagusta or Girne follow the road to Yeni Erenköy (Gialousa) and then the Karpaz Anayolu to the village of Dipkarpaz (Risokarpaso). From there on, follow the signs to Apostolos Andreas Monastery. The beach is about 20 km from the village centre. The condition of the road is not the best for the last few kilometers; but they are certainly doeable with a normal car if you drive carefully. During the high season, tourist busses stop for like one or two hours at the Golden Beach, however those tourists just seldomly walk a lot.
